Aerospace / Aviation Training

Canadore College School of Aviation

With programs including aviation and avionics maintenance, structural repair technology and rotary wing pilot training, it is clear to see how Canadore plays an important role in the continuing development of Jack Garland Airport.

Canadore College's on site aviation campus can customize programming specific to industry needs. Their 82,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility provides students with classrooms, laboratories, hangars, resource centres, meeting and student space. Opened in 2002 the campus positions the College as one of the most comprehensive aviation educators in Ontario.

With a successful international program realizing a 23% increase in enrollment the campus services nearly 300 students per year positioning Canadore for the future expansion of campus and programming.

Building upon its partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations, the College provides a full range of leading-edge Aerospace Education, Transportation, and Logistics Management programs.

Canadore College's School of Aviation in North Bay offers four full-time, post-secondary programs approved by Transport Canada. Licenced Aviation Maintenance Engineers, with civilian and/or military qualifications, make up the faculty and technical staff of the Aircraft Maintenance, Avionics Maintenance, and Structural Repair programs. These professionals possess a wealth of aviation experience and expertise.

The faculty of the Aviation Pilot Rotary Wing program all have Class I Instructor Licences and Instrument Ratings. They each have more than 10,000 hours of helicopter flight experience in the civilian industry.

Canadore College enrollment is always at capacity and recruitment for the best students is fierce. That is great news for employers looking for graduates in this sector. In fact, in a recent Ontario survey, 100 percent of the employers of Aircraft Structural Repair, Aircraft Maintenance, and Avionics graduates were very satisfied with the skills of the Canadore College graduates they hired.

While that is great news, Canadore will not stop there. They intend to make the College the most comprehensive academic aviation school in eastern Canada. Through partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations, that vision is on its way to becoming a reality. The economic impact of this initiative will be tremendous, locally and regionally. Providing an educated and motivated work force will be the key to attracting additional aerospace investment to the area.

Canadore's mission is simple:

  • to be an active, responsive, and value-added partner in the development of a North Bay aerospace industry;
  • to build a contract training consortium with an international reputation through regional, provincial, and national strategic alliances with colleges and universities;
  • to expand on a core set of aviation, ground transportation, and supply chain management programs to become a leading trainer in transportation and logistics management in Canada.
